What is Creative Commons?
Creative Commons was co-founded by Lawrence Lessig, it is a nonprofit organization that allows the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through legal tools that are free. The free, easy-to-use copyright licenses provide a simple way of giving the public permission to share and use creative work. The CC licenses allow you to change your copyright terms from the default of “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved.” CC licenses work alongside copyright terms and allows you to modify them to suit your needs.

Creative Commons allows you to let people share and use your photographs without companies selling them on. It is keen to expand the range of creative work that is available to designers, to build upon and legally share.
Creative Commons develops, supports, and stewards legal and technical infrastructure that maximizes digital creativity, sharing, and innovation.
